Abstract: The effect of trap color and orientation on
capture of adult pear thrips Taeniothrips inconsequens, was tested in Connecticut
and Massachusetts. Vertically positioned fluorescent yellow rectangles caught the greatest
number of thrips, but commercially available yellow, dark red, or white traps caught
nearly as many. Dark green and dark blue traps were least attractive to adults. Such traps
can be useful for monitoring populations of pear thrips on sugar maple.
