Tree Climbing Competition

| On May 21, 2005, the first
Connecticut Tree Climbing Competition was held. Due
largely to the efforts of Greg Lukos, lead organizer and original
conceiver of the idea, and Larry Dvorsky, head judge and technical
liaison, 16 competitors (14 men and 2 women) arrived at Heritage Village
in Southbury on that Saturday morning to learn, to share and to compete.
It was a fun day.
The winner of the competition was Jeff
Perotti of Sharon. Jeff is now entered as the
Connecticut
representative in the New England Tree Climbing Championship, to be held
on June 4th in Burlington
,
Vermont.

In addition to Greg and Larry,
thanks are also due to the Sponsors
who supported this competition, both with people and with funding, the
Judges, who also generously gave up their time to turn out, and
individuals, including Susan Stotts of Lewis Tree, who designed the
t-shirt; Jeff Ward, who took pictures; Bryan Happ and Paul Baukus, who manned the computers and
designed the computerized score-keeping; and Rocco Massaro, who, along
with Eric Brito and Jose Fuentes did yeoman
service setting lines and prepping the trees for competition as well as
helping collect items from the trees when the competition was over.
A big thanks, too, to the crew at Heritage Village, who gave up their day
off to help make the day work.
It was a
great day and sure to be the start of a Connecticut
tradition! |
